With a concise and compact format, this manual is written primarily for busy managers of IT, engineering, scientific, and other technical staff. It is also for HR managers, and technical workers who want to understand Asperger characteristics that they will commonly find in themselves and peers.

Starting from the perspective of diversity, every individual is unique. We can not pigeon-hole or stereotype technical and scientific workers. What we can observe is that many of the characteristics described by Professor Asperger are well suited to technical work. We also find that people with these characteristics are often drawn to technical careers. This has resulted in a higher concentration of people with these traits in IT, engineering, and scientific workplaces.

From the perspective of neurodiversity, we can take a positive view. Rather than seeing Asperger characteristics as an unwanted difference from some ideal "norm", we can look at their benefits in the workplace. Rather than thinking of Asperger's Syndrome as a disadvantage that one either has or has not got, we can see it as merely at the further end of the normal range of human personality traits. Most of us have some Asperger characteristics, and we can see them as an asset, as long as our managers have some Asperger awareness.

"Asperger Awareness makes an important contribution for those with Asperger traits working in technical roles. I would certainly recommend it."

Malcolm Johnson, author of Managing with Asperger Syndrome

"Hopefully, this book will be appreciated by managers for much the same reason as it was written - diversity once understood and valued can only enhance productivity and knowledge - surely progressive."

Eleanor Gittins, Psychologist specialising in Adult Asperger's

"Reading this book has given me so many 'aha' moments as to why people have acted in a particular way. If you need to lift the performance and output long-term of your techs, this book will help"

Cameron Woolfe, 20 years Manager, IBM
